On August 16, an export shipment of zinc concentrate marked a historic milestone as the first cargo of critical minerals left the Port of Churchill in over 20 years. This achievement reflects Arctic Gateway Group’s efforts to revitalize the Hudson Bay Railway and diversify the port. The shipment, from Hudbay Minerals Inc., underscores the growth of Canada’s Arctic trade corridor and highlights significant infrastructure improvements, including a new storage facility and upgrades to the rail line. Supported by a $60 million federal and provincial investment, the Arctic Gateway project aims to boost economic development, job creation, and Indigenous reconciliation, while enhancing Canada’s Arctic sovereignty and supply chain resilience.
