The Port of London Authority (PLA) and DP World have collaborated to reduce marine pollution by introducing a passive debris collector (PDC) at London Gateway Port. The PDC uses the energy of the river’s current to trap floating litter and debris and is designed to withstand the challenging conditions of the Thames’ choppy waters. With this addition, the 95 miles of the tidal Thames that the PLA is responsible for will be covered by nine networks of trash collectors. This project aligns with Goal 14 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for life below water and represents a significant advancement towards the PLA’s objective of a clean river by 2050.
