The Windsor Port Authority has deployed advanced surveillance cameras and radar systems to strengthen waterway safety and cross-border security between Canada and the U.S. The new technology allows real-time tracking and visual confirmation of activity on the river, helping to prevent collisions, detect illegal crossings, and support emergency rescues. Harbour Master Peter Berry noted that the system automatically follows moving objects and records time-stamped footage, enhancing enforcement and ensuring the free movement of vessels. Already installed along the river, the system has proven effective in aiding law enforcement and rescue operations. Future upgrades include integrating aerial monitoring using drone detection.
