Prairie grain will move through the Hudson Bay Railway to the Port of Churchill this week, marking the first grain shipment through the northern corridor since 2020. The shipment represents another milestone in the revitalization of Canada’s only deepwater Arctic seaport connected to the North American rail network, with multiple export vessels expected to load grain for international markets later this summer. Arctic Gateway Group noted that the 2026 shipping season will be the most diversified in the port’s history, with planned exports including grain, potash, critical minerals, and industrial cargo, alongside supplies destined for northern communities. The development supports efforts to diversify Canadian trade routes, strengthen northern transportation infrastructure, and expand export opportunities for Western Canadian resource producers.
