The Prince Rupert Port Authority and 13 gateway partners replaced more than 2 million litres of conventional diesel with Petro-Canada EcoDiesel in 2025, significantly reducing greenhouse-gas emissions from port operations. The renewable diesel, which delivers about 67% lower lifecycle GHG emissions, was used across a wide range of equipment, including cargo handlers, trucks, locomotives, tugs, and pilot vessels. The initiative displaced nearly a quarter of the port’s annual diesel consumption through collaboration with Suncor and Jepson Petroleum to ensure a reliable supply. Port officials say the program accelerates progress toward a 30% reduction in local carbon intensity by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050. Major terminal operators and service providers across land and marine operations participated in the transition.
