The provincial government has narrowly passed Bill 15, the Infrastructure Projects Act, which aims to fast-track public and private infrastructure projects deemed provincially significant. The bill has faced strong opposition from First Nations leaders, environmental groups, and municipal officials, who argue that it grants excessive power to the government and limits consultation on major projects. The BC government has a new provincial strategy aimed at unlocking the northwest region of British Columbia as a hub for critical mineral development, combining economic growth, Indigenous reconciliation, and environmental protection. Premier David Eby signalled the intention to attract as much as $30 billion in mining investment to the northwest of the province by working in partnership with First Nations.
