The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach recorded their busiest July on record, with volumes driven by importers frontloading cargo ahead of looming tariffs. Los Angeles handled over 1.01 million TEUs, its highest monthly total ever, while Long Beach processed 944,232 TEUs, its third-busiest month. Executives credited strong coordination across supply chain partners but warned of a sharp downturn ahead. Forecasts from the National Retail Federation’s Global Port Tracker predict U.S. port volumes will drop 5% in August, deepening to over 19% in the final months of 2025 as tariffs raise prices and weaken consumer demand.
