Daily vessel traffic in the Red Sea has risen by 60% since August 2024 to 36–37 ships per day, following a decline in Houthi attacks and a reported ceasefire between the U.S. and the Yemen-based group, according to EU naval mission commander Rear Admiral Vasileios Gryparis. While this marks a significant recovery from the low of 20–23 ships last year, volumes are still far below the pre-conflict average of 72–75. The last attack on commercial shipping occurred in November 2024, with recent threats focused only on Israeli-linked vessels. Despite improved conditions and over 450 vessels protected by the EU’s Aspides mission, major shipping lines remain cautious about resuming full Red Sea transits.
