Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe announced he will travel to China in the coming weeks to support federal efforts to resolve Beijing’s 75.8% tariff on Canadian canola. The move follows meetings in Saskatoon with federal Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald, industry groups, and Ottawa representatives, who stressed the importance of both pursuing talks with China and diversifying markets. Moe emphasized that while provincial engagement is important, any deal must ultimately be reached between Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Xi Jinping. China imposed the tariff last week, triggering a sharp drop in canola prices and heavy losses for farmers.
