On May 9, 2025, Seaspan Energy completed its first-ever LNG bunkering of a cruise ship, the Silver Nova, via its vessel Seaspan Garibaldi. This marks a significant step in reducing marine emissions and transitioning away from traditional marine fuels. LNG is the first alternative fuel approved for deep-sea vessel bunkering at the port, reinforcing the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s commitment to sustainability. The initiative supports cruise lines aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050, with LNG acting as a bridge to future fuels like ammonia and methanol. Seaspan Energy, now an accredited LNG supplier at the port, has completed several LNG bunkerings this year, positioning Vancouver as a growing hub for alternative marine fuels.
