Lloyd’s Register (LR) has granted approval in principle to Seaspan, a leading containership owner, for its innovative feeder boxship design, developed in collaboration with German naval architects Technolog. This next-generation vessel, measuring 198 meters in length, is initially designed to operate on LNG and has the capability to be converted to run on ammonia. This project signifies a step forward in the partnership between Seaspan and LR, which includes previous collaborations on the Methane Abatement in Maritime Innovation initiative and the Cargo Fire and Loss Innovation initiative. The current focus is also on enhancing seafarer safety amid the energy transition. Moving forward, Seaspan, LR, and Technolog will embark on the second phase of the project, aiming to develop a dual-fuel ammonia feeder vessel.
