Wärtsilä and Seaspan have completed the first of two planned installations of an autodocking system for three ports in Canada. The Seaspan Trader, a 2,550 dwt Ro/Ro ferry built in 2020, has now been outfitted with the SmartDock system developed by Wärtsilä ANCS. The system enables autonomous docking maneuvers, making maritime activities safer and more efficient. The autodocking system employs advanced technology, including a UKF (Unscented Kalman Filter) estimator and various sensors, to calculate precise position and rate estimates, ensuring safe and consistent autonomous docking and undocking maneuvers. The Seaspan Transporter is scheduled to be equipped with the SmartDock system in the near future.
