Genoa Design International and Seaspan Shipyards have signed a contract for the construction of Canada’s new Polar Icebreaker. Genoa Design will provide 3D modelling and design technology services for the project, employing up to 100 workers over the next few years. The Polar Icebreaker, weighing close to 28,000 tonnes and measuring 158 meters long, will serve as the flagship of the Canadian Coast Guard’s icebreaking fleet. It will be designed to operate in the Arctic’s ice-covered waters, enabling a year-round presence to support Indigenous Peoples, Arctic sovereignty, climate change research, and emergency response. Construction is set to begin in late 2024.
