Ship Source Oil Pollution Fund (SOPF) has signed an important agreement with the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation Limited (ITOPF), a leading organization in responding to oil and chemical spills worldwide. This agreement allows them to seek their expertise in evaluating claims related to oil pollution damage from ships. While ITOPF will provide guidance, SOPF retains the final decision-making authority for claim payments. This partnership enhances their spill response capabilities.
Additionally, SOPF has established agreements with other major players, including the International Group of P&I Clubs (IGP&I) and the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPC Funds), strengthening readiness for handling major spill compensation. All parties are committed to participating in a joint tabletop exercise in Canada to address collaborative claims management.
