Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) is advancing its maritime operations by developing an AI-enabled Vessel Traffic Management system aimed at enhancing navigation safety and port efficiency. This innovative system, to be prototyped at MPA’s Maritime Innovation Lab by companies including Tidalis, Kongsberg Norcontrol, and Wartsila Singapore, will leverage open system architecture for greater transparency and integration. The system will utilize data analytics to pinpoint traffic hotspots and apply machine learning to foresee potential collisions, accommodating more complex and higher volumes of vessel traffic. Additionally, MPA is creating a Satellite Resource Management Platform to expedite the acquisition of satellite imagery for urgent maritime missions, such as locating distressed vessels. This platform will use AI to optimize the selection of satellite specifications, simplifying a process that traditionally requires coordination with multiple satellite operators.
