South Korea has proposed a large-scale shipbuilding partnership with the United States, dubbed “Making American Shipbuilding Great Again” (MAGSA), to avoid the impending 25% US tariffs. The initiative, confirmed by Seoul, would involve multi-billion-dollar investments in American shipbuilding facilities by Korean firms. The move aligns with Washington’s broader push to counter China’s maritime dominance and revives US shipping capabilities. Negotiators aim to finalize an agreement before the tariffs come into effect on August 1.
