Yesterday, the official signing for the renewal of the conservation agreement to support the recovery of the Southern Resident Killer Whale (SRKW) under the Species at Risk Act was held at Canada Place. The Chamber of Shipping along with other industry associations, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, Transport Canada, Pacific Pilotage Authority and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans have renewed commitments to continue working collaboratively to reduce acoustic and physical disturbance of large commercial ships operating in SRKW habitat.  Significant achievements were recognized during the presentations, including the high level of participation in speed reduction measures vessels, the global awareness raised, and the resulting reduction of underwater radiated noise by more than 50%.
