Statistics Canada highlights that 40% of Canadian industries, representing a quarter of the nation’s economic output, are highly vulnerable to global supply chain disruptions. The report shows a rising share of small manufacturers and wholesalers that are directly importing specialized intermediate inputs, resulting in fewer resources to absorb supply chain shocks. Next steps identified include strengthening internal trade through a federal action plan and other work that will complement the new National Supply Chain Office’s mandate to increase the capacity, efficiency and reliability of Canada’s transportation supply chain.
