Teck Resources has announced it will extend operations at its Highland Valley Copper mine in B.C. until 2046, investing $2.1–$2.4 billion in what is now the largest critical minerals project in the province’s history. This 18-year extension will support the company’s goal to double copper output by the decade’s end, with average annual production projected at 132,000 tonnes. The project is expected to create 2,900 construction jobs and sustain 1,500 existing positions. With permitting in place and engineering nearly 70% complete, full construction will begin in August 2025 to expand infrastructure and access new ore reserves.
