As of April 1, 2024, updates to the Marine Safety Fees Regulations regarding vessel registry fees have been implemented. These changes, published in the Canada Gazette, Part II, aim to modernize Transport Canada’s (TC) fee structure. The adjustments include increased fees for certain services to more accurately represent service provision costs, introduction of new fees for previously free services, reduction or elimination of some fees, a new requirement for large vessel registration renewal fees, a mandate for clients to update their owner and vessel information every five years, and annual fee adjustments based on the Consumer Price Index.
