The American Association of Port Authorities’ annual convention highlighted a growing federal push to accelerate U.S. port and maritime infrastructure projects. Discussions focused on shipbuilding, dredging, workforce development, terminal electrification and potential use of small modular nuclear reactors to meet rising port energy demand. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is developing a national dredging framework aimed at streamlining reviews, improving regional scheduling and making better use of existing dredging capacity. Federal officials also emphasized closer interagency coordination and faster project approvals as the U.S. expands investment in ports and its broader maritime industrial base.
