The Trump administration has proposed a new 10% tariff on Canadian exports that do not qualify under CUSMA, citing concerns over forced labour in global supply chains. The measure would affect only a small portion of Canadian exports, with nearly 90% of trade expected to remain exempt under CUSMA rules. The proposed tariff is part of a broader U.S. initiative targeting more than 60 trading partners and remains subject to public consultation and review before any implementation.
