Last week Unifor members halted a Canadian National Railway (CN) train in Winnipeg as part of a protest against CN’s handling of a strike at the Autoport facility in Halifax. The strike, which began on February 27, involves 239 Unifor Local 100 members. Unifor’s actions, including stopping the train during a demonstration, aim to draw attention to CN’s use of replacement workers at the Halifax transshipping hub. The union demands good faith bargaining from CN to resolve the strike and criticizes CN’s national operations disruption due to their tactics. CN, however, asserts its commitment to a fair settlement and claims that its contingency plan maintains supply chain fluidity.
