The US Department of the Interior has ordered an immediate pause on construction of five major offshore wind projects, citing newly identified national security risks linked to radar interference from turbine structures. Federal agencies will now reassess mitigation measures in coordination with developers and state partners. Industry groups, including NOIA and Oceantic Network, strongly oppose the move, noting the projects had already passed extensive Department of Defence reviews. They warn that the decision threatens jobs, investment, and US competitiveness in clean energy. Courts have recently overturned previous attempts to halt offshore wind development. No timeline has been provided for lifting the pause.
