US Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced the withdrawal or termination of $679 million in federal funding for 12 offshore wind projects, marking a major shift in Trump Administration policy. The decision redirects resources toward port upgrades, shipbuilding, and traditional energy infrastructure, in line with an April 2025 presidential directive to “restore America’s maritime dominance.” The largest cut hit California’s Humboldt Bay Offshore Wind project, which lost $427 million from the INFRA program. MARAD also pulled $177 million from six projects and terminated five under the Port Infrastructure Development Program. Duffy criticized the Biden-era wind initiatives as “wasteful,” framing the move as prioritizing “real infrastructure” over renewable projects.
