Statistics Canada warned it may have to delay releasing September international trade figures if the US government shutdown continues, since Canadian trade data relies heavily on US import information. The agency, scheduled to publish the report on November 4, said updates will follow as the situation evolves. Over 70% of Canada’s exports go to the US, making American data essential for accuracy. The current shutdown, which began on October 1 amid a congressional budget impasse, has halted many federal functions, including statistical reporting. StatsCan added that while monthly GDP data remains unaffected, contingency plans are in place to protect key quarterly releases.
