Bunge and Viterra’s $34 billion merger deal is nearing conditional approval from the European Union, according to a source. The companies have proposed selling Viterra’s oilseed crush and refining plants in Hungary and Poland to address EU competition concerns. The European Commission is expected to make a decision by August 1. While the deal has been approved in Brazil, it continues to face regulatory challenges and opposition from farm groups in Canada.
