The International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 505 (ILWU Local 505) is partnering with the B.C. Maritime Employers Association, Prince Rupert Port Authority, and DP World Prince Rupert to construct a new Union Hall in downtown Prince Rupert. The new 10,000 square foot three-story building will replace the 100-year-old building and support the continued sustainable growth of the Port of Prince Rupert. Construction is expected to begin in mid-2023, and the project is being led and funded by ILWU Local 505, with the other partners contributing $2.6M in support. The new Union Hall will provide a state-of-the-art facility that will enable the continuation and expansion of well-paying jobs for the waterfront workforce. The redevelopment project reflects the commitment of waterfront partners to Prince Rupert’s long-term sustainable growth and the recognition of the vital, sustained growth of the port industry in Prince Rupert. The new Union Hall will also support Prince Rupert’s 2030 vision to revitalize the city’s downtown by creating a balanced and vibrant center for job growth.
