The Liberia-flagged tanker Olympic Spirit was struck by missiles and drones in the Red Sea on Thursday, an attack claimed by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi militants. The vessel was hit approximately 73 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah while travelling from Jeddah to Muscat. The initial strike caused minor damage to the bridge, while two additional projectiles exploded nearby hours later. There were no fires or casualties reported, and the tanker remains seaworthy. The Houthis claimed responsibility, stating they targeted Olympic Spirit with 11 ballistic missiles and two drones. They also reported attacking another vessel, St. John, in the Indian Ocean. The Houthis have conducted nearly 100 attacks on ships in the Red Sea since November, citing support for Palestinians in the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
