Since 2012, Garth has been the Director, West Coast, CSL Americas’, a division of The CSL Group of Montreal, Canada, the world’s largest owner/operator of self-unloading belt ship Panamax/Handy-size vessels. In his role, he is responsible for all commercial, operations and regulatory affairs on the West Coast of North America/Pacific Islands.
Garth previously worked for the domestic division of Canada Steamship Lines as Director, Marketing & Customer Service in the U.S. and Ontario, Canada, located in Toronto. Prior to joining CSL in 1998, he worked 20 years with CN Rail, assuming ever increasing responsibilities in operations and marketing. A participant in the 1995 IPO, Garth ultimately served as North American Market Manager, responsible for domestic marketing programs and the corporate Intermodal business plan after contributing to the double stack terminal design and implementation across the system in the early 1990’s.
Garth graduated from BCIT Marketing, Finance Option, in 1986 and achieved his MBA from the University of Western Ontario’s Richard Ivey School of Business in 1998. He later attended Cambridge University, in the UK, at the Academy of Transport, Chartering in 2006, and Anatomy of Shipping in 2011.
He enjoys skiing, cycling, sailing and spending time on his Hunter 36 sailboat with his children as often as possible enjoying the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. & Canada.
