Yesterday the Labour Minister, the Honourable Seamus O’Regan, announced his resignation from Cabinet for family reasons. Today, Gatineau MP Steven MacKinnon, who has been serving as government House leader was sworn in as the new Minister of Labour and Seniors. The transition comes at a precarious time as the decision by the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) on the Ministerial Referral on the maintenance of activities is expected on Friday, August 9th, which could open the door to a strike or lockout following 72-hours notice. The full cabinet is expected to meet virtually today.
