Mozambique has become a significant player in the dry bulk market, with exports tripling over the past decade, primarily driven by coal trade from Nacala port and rising ore and concentrate exports. According to broker Braemar, there’s potential for further growth in coking coal exports due to strong Indian demand and increasing production capacity in Mozambique. Recently, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique agreed on a major rail and port project, including a $1.5 billion deepwater port at Technobanine, which could also serve South Africa and Eswatini, though financing for the infrastructure is still pending.
